The scribes in the RBO scriptorium have always prided themselves on the fact that the Roman-Britain.org website is produced entirely through the use of free software downloaded from the Wonderful World Wide Web, with no web-page generators or any other type of code-producing software. The freeware and shareware programs available through the links on this page are the only tools - aside from NotePad.exe and a bespoke "bubble-sort" program written in VB6 - used in the development of the entire website. Essentially, if you download everything specified on this page, you will have acquired everything necessary to produce your own web pages. Although, if your resultant site looks too much like Roman-Britain.org, there will be no option but for us to send round the RBO Rixatores.¹

The Other RGB Color Chart by Taylored Marketing of Leander, Texas - Good colour chart for HTML. To convert to VRML colors, simply multiply RGB values by 1/255.

XML in Easy Steps by Mike McGrath (Computer Step 2003); Pure JavaScript by Wyke, Gilliam & Ting (Sams 1999); Teach Yourself JavaScript in 24 Hours by Michael Moncur (Sams 1999); HTML Programmers Reference by Thomas A. Powell and Dan Whitworth (Osborne 1998).
The most regularly consulted works during RBO development are the indispensible (but quite expensive) Pure JavaScript by Wyke, Gilliam & Ting and the HTML Programmers Reference by Thomas A. Powell and Dan Whitworth. Similar works covering VRML and XML would be nice, but some verpa¹ posing as a book-seller recently tried to sell me a 'Vermal' reference for "fifty [bloody] squid", which effectively rules one for the forseeable future. Eheu!
