| NY750667 | (100 x 145 m) | (1.4 ha) | This camp lies some 150m N of Seatsides Camp-2. It is protected to the S by the gulley of the Brackies Burn, and to the N and E by an unnamed tributary stream which passes between the camp and Twice Brewed, which lies directly N of the Roman encampment close to the Vallum. The perimeter of the camp is much damaged by cultivation and field boundaries, especially to the N, where a former field boundary obscures the fact that the camp is a parallelogram, not a trapezoid as the false shadow of the modern field boundary suggests. There are two discernable gateways, in the S side off-set to the E and almost centrally in the E side but displaced somewhat to the S. A natural gulley on the N side opposite the S gateway intrudes 100 feet (30m) or so inside the camps defences, and may have functioned as a N gateway down to the stream. The camp was apparently aligned to the ESE. |
