Romano-British Settlement

Thrapston, Northamptonshire

NGRef: TL0079
OSMap: LR141
Type: Probable Settlement
Roads
NW (4) to Brigstock
NE (6) to Ashton
ESE (18) to DVROVIGVTVM
SW (10) to Irchester

Situated at the crossing of the main south-east to North-west road between Durovigutum (Godmanchester) and Ratae (Leicester), and another probable road running between Durobrivae (Water Newton) in the north-east and Irchester to the south-west. The possibility is high of there having beeen a minor Romano-British settlement at Thrapston on the River Nene.

Substantial Roman buildings have been found at Ringstead, lying 4 miles south-west along the line of the supposed road to Irchester.
