| Inveresk Camp 1 | |||
| NT349711 | (457 x 472+ m) | (c.21.6 ha) | This large camp measures about 1,500 ft. from north-west to south-east, by at least 1,550 ft. transversely, enclosing an area of about 53¼ acres. The scarp of the river Esk offers protection along its north and north-western sides, and the eastern side was defended by the Howe Mire, in former times an extensive peat bog. St. Joseph notes that there is space here for a camp of 120 acres or more. Excavations on the site in the late-1960's revealed the north-west gateway and its titulum outwork, the foundation trenches of timber buildings within the defences and a dupondius, possibly Domitianic. |
| Inveresk Camp 2 | |||
| NT709351 | (230+ x c.366+ m) | (c.8.1 ha) | This camp was discovered from the air in 1975 within the southern defenses of the massive Camp #1, re-using part of the south-west defences of the larger camp. |
There are other camps along the Esk at Eskbank, Lugton and Dalkeith.
