Sections acros the defences revealed a V-shaped ditch averaging 7½ ft. wide by 4 ft. deep (2.3 x 1.2 m), and also uncovered a small piece of Samian ware (type Dr. 15/17; dated AD70-90). The camp's position, on the north shores of the Montrose Basin, suggests that it may have been supplied by sea, possibly acting as a temporary supply-base, perhaps during the tenure of governor Julius Agricola (vide supra). |
