This rectangular fort with superb views is protected by a single bank and external ditch on all but its E side where thedefences were doubled. Entrances with outworks were located on the S and NE.
At the E end of the fort is a Neolithic long barrow, 70m long and 3.7m high, where charred human skeletons were found.
The Westbury White Horse adorns the hillside below the fort, and is thought to date to c878AD celebrating a victory of King Alfred.
