The Dateable Pottery Evidence

Two pieces of pottery bearing potter's marks have been recovered during exavations at Castledykes; a decorated platter of Crestius Form 18 or early 18/31 dated by Dr. Grace Simpson as Claudian to early-Vespasianic, and a Form 27 with an illegible stamp which cannot be accurately dated. Unstamped South Gaulish decorated wares recovered were; ten Form 37, nine Form 29 and single examples of Forms 30 & 67; of these, nothing can be definitely dated to the Flavian-Trajanic period. Antonine occupation is attested by the recovery of pottery fragments bearing the stamps of six Antonine potters; Minatio appears on two Form 33 potsherds and there are single examples of Albinus Form 18/31, Avitus Form 18/31 or 31, Cinnamus Form 30, Cuccillus Form 18/31 or 31, and Gratius Form 18/31.
