Cohors Quartae Delmatarum

Back to Cohors II Delmatarum Forth to Cohors I Frisiavonum

The Fourth Cohort of Delmatae

This infantry cohort contained five-hundred auxiliary soldiers recruited from the Delmatian tribes, who inhabited the areas bordering the eastern Adriatic in the modern countries of Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro. They are recorded in Britain on a building inscription from the inaccessible fort at Hardknott in Cumbria, dated sometime during the reign of the emperor Hadrian. The military discharge certificate dated to AD105 probably refers to Cohors II Delmatarum.
