Cohors Primae Aeliae Classicae

Back to Cohors I Celtiberorum Forth to Cohors I Cornoviorum

The First Cohort of the Aelian Fleet

This regiment was evidently created out of former marine units. They are attested in Britain only in the Notitia Dignitatum of the 4th/5th centuries. Unfortunately, their garrison fort Tunnocelum, is uncorroborated by further epigraphic evidence and remains undiscovered.

Evidence for the Cohort in Britain

  1. L' Année Épigraphique 1997.1001 diploma dated 27th February AD158,
  2. Tunnocelum (Notitia Dignitatum).
