This document is damaged down the left hand side and is missing the bottom portion, which would have contained the date it was issued, the name of its recipient and his old regiment, a declaration of authenticity and the names of several witnesses. The document records that 8 cavalry units and 27 infantry and part-mounted regiments in the army of the propraetor Trebius Germanus recieved discharges, but several of these names have been lost. We are fortunate in that two of these discharge certificates have been found, both damaged, but between the two texts it is possible to reconstruct the majority of the original content. See AE 1997.1779b.
