This contour fort is defended by a bank, ditch and counterscarp, with entrances on the east, north-east and north-west. There is a small, round earthwork within the fort which may be an earlier enclosure; it has been dated to 350BC. There are seven barrows inside the defences which have yielded grave-goods of bronze and amber, and Iron-Age agriculture is represented by strip lynchets which can be seen on the hillsides around the fort.
